Does brushing your dog feel like a chore to you? Or do you make a mental note to brush your dog’s hair only to shy away from the task at the last moment?

Maybe it’s not just laziness or lack of motivation.

It might be your dog’s hairbrush!

I mean, think of it: If your dog doesn’t feel so much discomfort from the hairbrush tugging too hard on his hair, he would sit still and enjoy the grooming session, which would make your job easier and, who knows, maybe you’d actually look forward to grooming your dog twice or thrice a week.

Ready to make your grooming sessions effortless and enjoyable for you and your dog?

Here are the 7 best dog hair brushes that will grant your desires.

7 Best Dog Hairbrush for Effortless Grooming.

1. Delomo Pet Grooming Glove.

What are those big hands coming towards me? Oh, they feel so good!

Do you have a short-, long-, or curly-haired dog that doesn’t like to sit still long enough for you to brush his hair, but absolutely loves to be petted? Then, Delomo Pet Grooming Glove might come in handy – pun intended!

The silicone bristles on these brushing gloves gently grab loose fur in your dog’s coat while you are petting him.

But, will it fit your hands?

Yes, it will! The adjustable straps on the wrist and the glove’s universal fit make it comfortable and easy to use for small to large palm sizes.

Compared to other dog brushes, the Delomo Pet Grooming Glove can be used all over your pet’s body – tail, head, underbelly, and even legs – without causing any discomfort.

This is great if you have a neurotic pet, an aging dog, or one with arthritis. All you need is to apply a little pressure and the massage from this brush will help soothe and make them calm and happier.

Cleaning the gloves is easy!

You can peel the hair off when you’re done or simply rub the gloves together and the loose hair will fall off.

2. Hertzko Self Cleaning Slicker Brush.

Love or hate them, slicker brushes are very effective at getting rid of mats and are comfortable on the skin.

It’s just unfortunate that getting hair out of them has always been a pain in the rear. That’s until self-cleaning slicker brushes like Hertzko Self Cleaning Slicker Brush came along.

Hertzko Self Cleaning Slicker Brush is very comfortable as it doesn’t tug at the skin excessively and it has a slip-proof ergonomic handle so you can hold it firm for a long time.

Compared to deshedding tools like the Furminator, it doesn’t fill up quickly on each swipe thereby forcing you to pause and clean the brush.

No!

With this slicker brush, you can swipe many times until the brush is filled with hair then push the button on it to retract the pins and get rid of all the hair at once.

I’d recommend Hertzko Self Cleaning Slicker Brush for short- to medium-haired breeds as it can easily reach and brush their undercoat without scraping the skin.

What I find annoying about this brush is the bulky head which makes it difficult to use on the legs, tail, and neck.

3. Hartz Groomer’s Best Combo Detangling Dog Brush.

If you have a medium- or long-haired dog that sheds like that’s his job, then I recommend getting Hartz Groomer’s Detangling Dog Brush.

This two-sided dog brush has metal bristles that are very effective at detangling and getting rid of mats in dogs with long, curly hair. And, nylon bristles that can help you work natural oils into your dog’s coat to make it healthy and soft.

Both bristles are rounded at the tip to prevent them from irritating dogs with sensitive skin.

What I love about this brush is the handle. It’s neither too strong nor soft. It just feels comfortable, which means you can thoroughly brush your dog all over without your palms getting cramped.

4. Pet Neat Pet Grooming Brush.

At first glance, it looks like a deshedding tool made of cheap plastic that won’t last very long.

But as they say, “looks can be deceiving!”

Pet Neat Pet Grooming Brush is a ‘neat’ little tool that you can use to groom your short- or long-haired dog without having to apply so much pressure on their skin.

The blade is replaceable and unlike some dog grooming hairbrushes, Pet Neat Pet Grooming Brush does not create a mess. Plus, removing the hairs on it is super easy.

Even though the tip of the dog brush is blunt, applying too much pressure can make it uncomfortable, especially when brushing dogs with sensitive skin. That’s why you should always focus on a small area, get rid of the mats there, then move on to another area.

The only let down is the thickness of the handle – it’s not fat enough to fill the palm. But, you’ll get most of the dead hair out of your dog long before the grip starts making you feel uncomfortable.

5. FURminator Adjustable deMatter.

Does your dog’s hair tangle like jungle vines? Then you absolutely need to get the FURminator Adjustable deMatter.

This dematting tool works like a charm!

It has prongs that are curved and rounded at the tip to prevent accidentally poking your dog’s skin. And, the head is narrow so the tool doesn’t pull too much hair and skin at once.

The length of the prongs can be adjusted to make room for your dog’s coat type: if your dog has long, curly fur you can make the prongs extend further out or adjust them in for short-haired breeds.

The handle is among one of the most ergonomic handles I’ve seen. It fits properly and gives a good grip even if you are using it on a wet dog.

I would advise you to be careful with this tool when trying to get rid of tangled hair. The curved prongs can easily tug too much and may make your dog less likely to tolerate it next time.

6. LUMO: All-in-one Self-Cleaning Pro Grooming Tool.

Last but not least is the LUMO: All-in-one Self-Cleaning Pro Grooming.

This brush is simply awesome and the design is unlike anything I’ve seen before. The handle feels very sturdy in the hand and the mechanism that pushes fur off of the brush is super easy to use.

What I like about this grooming tool is that the metal bristles (which are rounded at the tip) are thicker than those on slicker brushes and are less likely to be bent.

And, instead of having a big, bulky, rectangular head, LUMO: All-in-one Self-Cleaning Pro Grooming is narrower at the tip (triangle shape).

With a thoughtful design like this, you can get behind your dog’s ears and remove tangles and mats without scratching, tickling, or poking too hard.

I don’t see the LUMO: All-in-one Self-Cleaning Pro Grooming breaking anytime soon and that makes it an investment worth making for your dog.

7. KONG ZoomGroom Brush.

It’s easier to remove tangles and mats in some dog’s coat while bathing them. However, to do that you need a brush like KONG ZoomGroom Brush that can double as a bathing brush and a hairbrush.

It feels sturdy, comfortable, and doesn’t slip out of the hand even when the brush is wet.

KONG ZoomGroom Brush is a great choice for controlling dandruff on dogs without hurting their skin –especially dogs with sensitive skin. That’s because the silicone bristles are firm enough to penetrate thick coats and pick up lots of loose fur, dirt, and dead skin.

However, the brush is not really effective at collecting short fur. So if you’re going to use it, make sure to do so outside the house where it isn’t windy or somewhere you can easily clean the loose hair.

Bonus: Other Accessories That Can Help!

Dog accessories that will help you groom your dog effortlessly

1. BioSilk for Pets Therapy Detangling Plus Shine Protecting Mist for Dogs

BioSilk Detangling Mist for Pets is a game-changer for dogs that have long, thick curly, or deep wavy hair.

It gives dog hair a silky feel, a shiny look, and it smells absolutely wonderful.

Although you can untangle any type of dog hair (short, medium, long, or curly hair) successfully with the appropriate dog hairbrush, BioSilk Detangling Mist for Pets helps you get the job done faster. Long before your dog starts feeling discomfort.

Brushing a dog’s hair after spraying this detangling mist makes the tasks easy and effortless as a hot knife gliding through butter.

Great for dogs that can’t stand being brushed for too long – a dog has other business to attend to!

Just make sure you use it outside the house because some people may be sensitive to the smell (not that it smells overpowering). And, shield your dog’s eyes, nose, and mouth… just keep it away from the face.

2. DELOMO Pet Hair Remover Roller with Self-Cleaning Base.

If you love your dog, but not his fur, then DELOMO Pet Hair Remover Roller is for you!

This must-have tool makes it super easy to remove loose pet hair from the couch, carpets (including the one in the car), bedding, pillows, and what have you in a few back and forth rolls.

Cleaning the tool is just as easy as using it to collect pet hair. All the fur it picks is stored in one place so when you are done all you have to do is open the trap door and wipe the hair off with a damp cloth.

It feels sturdy and well-made, even though it is made of plastic.

No batteries or cords to worry about. No bristles or sticky tapes to clean. No special accessories before it works.

Just a simple back and forth rolling motion.

However, it would have been nicer if the handle was a bit longer or there was an extension arm you could get so you don’t have to bend so low to use it on some surfaces.

What’s The Best Hairbrush for Your Dog’s Grooming Needs?

What's the best dog hair brush for short, medium, or long curly hair? Which brush is best for dogs with sensitive skin?

The best hairbrush for effortless grooming actually depends on what you want to achieve and the type of hair your dog has.

Short-haired dog breeds such as Dalmatians, Boxers, and Rat Terriers, need a brush that has soft, compact bristles so it doesn’t poke, tickle, or irritate their skin. And, it needs to be compact so the bristles don’t go through the hair without doing anything.

The nylon brush on Hartz Groomer’s Detangling Dog Brush is perfect for this purpose and Pet Neat Pet Grooming Brush is a good alternative too. Remember, short hair will fall on the floor instead of piling up in the brush, so always brush your short-haired dog someplace you can easily clean up.

Dogs with medium to long, curly hair such as Border Collies and Shih Tzus, require brushes with bristles that are a bit spaced out. This will help make your dog more comfortable since the brush is not tugging too hard on his hair.

Hertzko Self Cleaning Slicker Brush, LUMO: All-in-one Self-Cleaning Pro Grooming, and KONG ZoomGroom Brush are great for this purpose. Especially Hertzko Self Cleaning Slicker Brush, since it has that self-cleaning feature – removing curly hair from a dog’s hairbrush can be as daunting as brushing the dog.

While  Delomo Pet Grooming Glove is great for massaging and petting your dog while you brush his hair, I’d only recommend it for curly hair that is not longer than 2 inches. Fur that is longer than this might be harder to brush with  Delomo Pet Grooming Glove.

FURminator Adjustable deMatter is great for controlling mats and tangles in medium to long-haired dog breeds. However, you need to use it regularly – at least, thrice a week to stay on top of your dog’s grooming needs, especially breeds that quickly form mats.

Most of the groomers I’ve interacted with are of the opinion that there is no one ‘best dog hairbrush’ for double-coated dogs. That’s because double-coated dogs such as German shepherds, huskies, shiba inus, have two types of fur and that means two problems to solve.

You’ll need a slicker hairbrush like Hertzko Self Cleaning Slicker Brush to get mats and tangles in the undercoat and a brush with tightly-packed but soft plastic bristles like Hartz Groomer’s Detangling Dog Brush to remove debris and dead hair from the topcoat and give it a healthy shine.

Remember, a detangling spray like BioSilk Detangling Mist for Pets will make grooming your dog faster and easier. And, DELOMO Pet Hair Remover Roller hair remover will help you clean up loose hair with minimal stress.
